Vermont Judiciary Warns Public of Court-Related Text Message Scam
The Vermont Judiciary is warning the public about fraudulent text messages and social media posts that purport to come from the Vermont Judiciary regarding notices of court appearances and/or unpaid fees and fines. The fraudulent messages threaten arrest warrants, license suspensions, increased fines and/or possible wage garnishment.
These messages are not from the Vermont Judiciary. The Vermont Judiciary does not communicate with parties to a court action via text messages or social media posts.
The Vermont Attorney General’s Office advises to not click any links in such messages, to not reply to such messages and to report such messages to the Attorney General’s Consumer Assistance Program via the Vermont Attorney General's Consumer Assistance Program Scam Reporting Form.
If you are unsure whether a message that you receive purporting to be from the Vermont Judiciary is legitimate, contact your local court via the contact information that is listed in the Find a Court section of this website. You may also email informationcenter@vtcourts.gov. Thank you.
