Beware of Scams: Fraudulent Messages Targeting Vermont Drivers

The Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and Vermont Judiciary are warning residents about an increase in scam messages falsely claiming that drivers are at risk of license suspension.

  • The Vermont Judiciary does not send text messages when there is a past due balance on a case or traffic ticket. Any text messages received about a past due balance for fees owed to the Court are not from the Vermont Judiciary and are likely fraudulent.
  • The Vermont DMV and the Vermont Judiciary do not send unsolicited messages demanding immediate payment
  • Official DMV and Judiciary notices come via mail or direct communication from verified sources.
  • Do not click links or provide personal information if you receive an unexpected message about payments.
