Biography:
Justice Drescher grew up in California, went to Dartmouth College, and obtained his law degree in 1995 from Northwestern University in Chicago. Following law school he moved to Vermont to be a law clerk for Judge Fred I. Parker, of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. When the clerkship ended he joined the law firm then known as Sheehey Brue Gray & Furlong in Burlington, where he became a partner in 2000. He left private practice in January 2002 to join the United States Attorney’s Office in Burlington, first as an Assistant United States Attorney in the civil division, and later as a prosecutor in the criminal division. In 2023 he became the First Assistant United States Attorney, the number two position in the office, and the highest position for a career employee. Upon the resignation of the United States Attorney, on January 20, 2025, Drescher became the Acting United States Attorney automatically pursuant to the Federal Vacany Reform Act. He continued to lead the office until his resignation on January 9, 2026, following his nomination by Governor Phil Scott to become an Associate Justice of the Vermont Supreme Court. He was sworn in on February 4, 2026, as the Court’s 139th Justice. He lives in Hinesburg with his wife Christina.
